Mindset, Self Improvement

change your attitudeThe course of your future will be dependent on how you act and your outlook on life and so it is essential to change your attitude to have a brighter future.  I actually got this idea from John Maxwell in his book, The 15 Laws of Invaluable Growth.  I’ve previously written about this book and some of it’s topics, but there’s so much awesome information in the book that it’s impossible not to want to go over more of it with you.

Maxwell’s The Law of Environment discusses how others around you, the situations you are in, and your viewpoint on them will determine how you live your life.  He stated that “When you change your attitude regarding a problem, you open up many opportunities for growth.”  The whole book is about growing and becoming a better person.  So naturally your thought process and environment you place yourself in is going to determine exactly how to live.  Maxwell pin pointed 6 key areas that we need to look at to have a better outlook in life.

6 Areas That Move You To Change Your Attitude

  1. Assess Your Current Environment:  You really need to understand who you are now before you can become you who you want to be.  What things in life lift you up, brings encouragement, inspiration, blessings, & strength.  If you aren’t getting what you need from different environments, you must be ready for a change.
  2. Change Yourself And Your Environment:  When you start to change your environment you’re going to get a lot of backlash from people you would consider your friends and even family.  This is common and you’ve already decided you needed a change so there’s no turning back.
  3. Change Who You Spend Your Time With:  Like I said, there’s going to be back-lash, so to thwart you have to connect with better people and spend your time with them.  Find people that are where you want to be and be-friend them, learn from them, grow from them.  Remember, you will be the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.  Don’t let that go to waste.
  4. Challenge Yourself In Your New Environment:  Pushing yourself is going to take a lot of effort, but it will be well worth it.  Set some goals & deadlines and make them public.  Let your new friends know what you’re doing.  This accountability is going to help you because no one likes to be ashamed of their efforts when others are watching.
  5. Focus On The Moment:  Realize that change is not going to happen overnight.  So don’t let your sole focus be on the past or the future, because that’s not where you’re living today.  Just focus on what you can do today to better just 1% better than the day before.
  6. Move Forward Despite Criticism:  Don’t focus on what others are saying.  You need to be confident in the direction you are heading because you are the only one accountable for how you live your life.

I’m going to be up-front with you.  This may sound so simple, but it’s not.  It is going to take a lot of work, energy, & time for you to do this.  And really, you’re never going to be done.  The most successful people today are still growing and will be until the day they die.  But it all starts when you change your attitude.
